So get this… I don’t really like ice cream (weird I know), but every now and then I like a bit of sorbet. I went to a local gelato place last summer here in Austin, TX where I live and they had a cantaloupe sorbet. I immediately fell in love with it. Last week while I was at my cycle class at Gold’s Gym, right in the middle of cycling I got a serious craving for the cantaloupe sorbet. Maybe it was the heat of the moment (haha) or maybe it was just that I my body was really craving some vitamin C, but I knew I had to go home and make my own melon sorbet recipe. I’ve heard a few people say the just freeze the melon and eat it that way, but if you want to make a quick sorbet recipe and not wait for it to freeze, try out my sorbet recipe and let me know what you think.
Cantaloupe is high in vitamin C and especially helpful for respiratory health. Now that we’re in spring going into summer, it’s a good idea to consume all the melon you can until it sadly goes away. I can’t wait to buy melon from the farmers market this summer, one of the stands has the best watermelons I’ve ever had, and then it will be time for Agua Fresca and Watermelon Sorbet.
- 1/2 of a Melon (I used cantaloupe)
- 2 TBS Sugar
- 2.5 Cups Ice
- Cut melon and place in the Blendtec Blender
- Then sprinkle the sugar over the melon
- Add in the ice last
- Blend on the "Ice-Cream, Frozen Yogurt" Setting
- This also blends perfectly in a Vitamix Blender
