Health Benefits of Hemp Seeds

Hemp seeds are soft round little seeds packed full of nutrients. To be clear right away, hemps seeds will not get you high, nor will they affect a drug test. The health benefits of hemp seeds include healthier hair, skin, and nails; as well as better digestion, sleep, weight control, and well-being. Although these facts have not been proven in a clinical trial, hemp is still beneficial for all of those things because of the protein, omega fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants that are in the hemp seeds. The natural plant protein, omega fatty acids, fiber and antioxidants all contribute to weight control, better digestion, and better hair, skin and nails. Fiber is also essential for diabetics for controlling high blood sugar, so there’s a bonus.

So after all those benefits are you thinking it’s too good to be true and that it must taste like crap? Kind of like how wheat grass and kale are great for one’s health, but tastes horrible. Well, you’re safe with hemp seeds. Hemp seeds have a rich nutty flavor, I also think they are smooth and not overpowering. I actually LOVE the taste of them and not matter what I put it on (sweet or savory) the taste aways kicks my food up a notch and it makes me happy even just to eat them.

Ways to use Hemp Seeds

  • Sprinkle on yogurt
  • Sprinkle on a salad
  • Pour some into a smoothie and blend them
  • Bake with them
  • Sprinkle in sauces
  • Add to hummus
  • Add to oatmeal
  • Add to cereal
  • Add to guacamole (it tastes so good with avocado!)
  • Add to a healthy vegetable and chicken wrap
  • Add to an avocado chocolate pudding recipe

Happy-Hemp Salad Recipe

  • 1 avocado
  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/2 bunch of basil (or to taste)
  • 1/4 cup hemp seeds
  • 1-2 TBS olive oil

  1. Dice the avocado, tomatoes and cucumber into chunks.
  2. Chop basil into strips
  3. Combine in a bowl and toss with olive oil
  4. Sprinkle the hemp on top
  5. Enjoy right away or chilled after an hour or so.
